My HJC helmet was OK. I did not use the electric shield the first day and 1/2. I started using it on the second day when I noticed some frosty spots clouding over. The electric shield worked great once I started using it. We all had trouble with ice on the outside at Fire Lake and I think we all learned how to deal with it. I would seriously consider buying the Bombardier helmet when I do this again. You know I got frostbite on my chin and did not know it was coming. I also knew how to prevent it after that. I will not use Dunnlop 606's again (for winter use). The outside knobs on my front tire are 1/2 cracked or peeled so to speak. The outside knobs on the back tire are also cracked but not too bad. I suspect the temperature and smallness of the knobs is what caused the cracking. It will be TKC 80's for me. I think 100 studs per tire are enough.
Send a schematic of how you want the starting jumper configured so every rider has the same setup. I would recommend these Anderson Power poles. Red and black slide together and are shielded and easy to use. http://www.andersonpower.com/products/standard-powerpole.html It might be worth your time to make up the jumpers and send one to each rider
I think the money for Hippo Hands is worth spending. My Kolpin mitts did not allow me to stand up or use my switches. Hippo Hands for my next trip.
A non fuel injected bike might need some type of carburetor deicing. Mine was OK below -10c it was the range around -3c where I started to have trouble. Heat tape or a handgrip heater could do the job.

It was a great ride!

Pour ma part, mon Karoo 2 avant a eu les mêmes problèmes de craquelage à la jonction du flanc et des knobbies. Probablement causé par la fatigue du pneu qui est tenu plus mou pour la traction (18lbs dans mon cas) et le froid qui enlève de la flexibilité. L'avoir gardé plus dur, j'aurais probablement pas eu ce problème... Je l'ai achevé aujourd'hui, moi qui pensait le garder jusqu'à ma ride (VFR2010) dans 2 semaines. Et bien non, en allant travailler à moto ce matin, et en roulant dans l'accotement gravelé du chemin Ste-Catherine pour monter à Magog, j'ai pogné un trou. Résultat, mon tube heavy duty a lâché et j'ai fini la ride avec un flat sur ma roue avant. J'ai encore appliqué la théorie à Curvemadd3 (plus ça roule, moins c'est pire, comme en VFR sur la roue arrière l'an passée de Bromont à Sherbrooke) pour me rendre au travail et pour en revenir, en y allant prudamment (80km/h) pour le pas le dérimer...
